Privacy Policy

Treepreneurs (“we”, “us”) is a social network for entrepreneurs. This policy explains what information we collect when you use treepreneur.vercel.app (the “Service”), why we collect it, and what choices you have. We wrote it in plain language on purpose — if anything is unclear, email us at [email protected].

1. Information we collect

Account information: email address, password (stored as a one-way cryptographic hash — we never store or can see your plain-text password), display name and username.

Profile information you choose to add: profile photo and cover image, bio, location, website, industry, business stage, team size, professional experience, and roles you identify with (founder, investor, mentor, etc.).

Estimated monthly income (optional, private): if you choose to share it, we use it only to compute a mutual “affordability” signal between two people who have both shared it — the number itself is never shown to anyone, including other members. It is visible to platform administrators for support and safety purposes.

Content you create: posts, comments, reactions, forum discussions and replies, cofounder/opportunity listings, projects, course content, community posts, and direct messages you send to other members.

Usage information: a last-active timestamp (powers the “online” indicator other members see), and standard server logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested) generated by our hosting providers.

Cookies: a session cookie that keeps you signed in (httpOnly, cannot be read by scripts), and two small preference cookies for your chosen theme (light/dark) and language. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

2. How we use it

• To operate the core features you sign up for: the feed, matching with other founders/investors/mentors, direct messages, the forum, the cofounder board, courses, and communities.
• To show you people and opportunities relevant to your stage, industry and goals.
• To keep your account secure and signed in.
• To remember your preferences (theme, language).
• To notify you about activity on your account (new followers, comments, messages) — you can mute specific notification types from Settings.
• To moderate content: enforcing blocks between members and reviewing reports of abuse.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.

3. Who we share it with

We use a small number of infrastructure providers to run the Service. We don't share your data with anyone else.

• Supabase — hosts our database (in São Paulo, Brazil) and powers real-time features like instant notifications and messages.
• Vercel — hosts the application and serves the website.

Other members can see the content you choose to make visible (your profile, posts, comments) per the app's normal design. If you report content or another member, our administrators can review the reported content and relevant account details to act on it.

4. Data retention and deletion

We keep your information while your account is active. If you delete your account, your profile, posts and messages are removed from the app. Some records may be kept for a limited time where needed to comply with legal obligations or resolve disputes. To request account deletion, email [email protected].

5. Your rights

You can access and correct most of your information directly from Settings and Edit profile. You can also ask us to export or delete your data, or to stop processing it, by contacting us at [email protected]. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws like the GDPR or CCPA — we'll honor reasonable requests regardless of jurisdiction.

6. Security

Passwords are hashed with bcrypt and never stored in plain text. Session cookies are httpOnly (inaccessible to page scripts) and transmitted over HTTPS. No system is 100% secure, but we take reasonable, industry-standard measures to protect your information.

7. International data transfer

Our database is hosted in São Paulo, Brazil, and our application servers may run in different regions depending on where you access the Service from. By using Treepreneurs, you understand your information may be processed outside your country of residence.

8. Children's privacy

Treepreneurs is intended for people old enough to run or invest in a business, and is not directed at children under 16. We don't knowingly collect information from children.

9. Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
